    Default Hey Hicky

Are you the guy who said the novel Cocaine should be added into the classic dystopia trio (Brave New World; 1984 & Fahrenheit 451)?
Well, I open my eyes and I see things. I've seen spirits moving through the walls. I've seen a vortex coming through the wall. I've seen amorphous little balls of light bouncing all around in the front yard through the window. I've seen giant bugs on the floor. I was in a hotel room in Amarillo, Texas, and all I remember is standing on the bed and seeing the whole wall in front of me filled with lights that were [makes popping sound] popping like popcorn out of the wall. Then I'll wake up and I go "Wow, I was standing on my bed and staring at this wall."

well I don't care very much about establishing some sort of canon of dystopia. but "cocaine nights" is very good.

well, dystopian fiction is hideously overdone. if you imagine a completely alternate universive then the alternative universe should be meticulously comprehensive and a genuine kind of replacement for the society of now. but I think dystopian fiction is best when it is subtle, and Cocaine Nights is a world that is not really our "world" yet it is something that could very conceivably be in our world. these are my half-baked thoughts

but there is very little point in making a "classic dystopian trio". it's a very /lit/ sort of thing to do. lists, while fun to make, are just quite and simply pointless and needlessly exclusive. canons are silly. I personally try to avoid thinking like anybody who posts on /lit/.

I'm pretty sure that particular 'classic dystopian trio' dates back way before 4chan or reddit tbh. Like the three of them are always mentioned together in introductions to any of them, and Orwell and Huxley actually corresponded via letter to talk about the similarities of both books and how they felt each one could be representing visions of two dark but completely plausible futures.
