#1 its called an avatar. google pokemon, click the picture, go to see full size image, copy the url, and go back to the browser that has this site. go to User CP, and paste the url in the avatar typing space. and SHAZAM you have an avatar!

Not neccesarily. You can also go to a sprite shop, make a request, and just ask for the URL of the image. Then copy it, and paste it in the little "edit avatar" thing.
