Sheesh you are an idiot. Nearly all of those are wrong.
Bulbasaur doesn't come from lightbulb. It's from the bulb of a flower before it blooms. A LIGHTBULB? You think that bulbasaurs a...freaky gloworm or something?
Charmander. It's from 'Char' and 'mander'. not 'char', 'man', 'der'. Char means 'to be burnt', charmander has no relation to charcoal. It's NOT a torkoal. 'Mander' comes from 'salamander', which was a mystical fire breathing dragon. Charmander is not related to 'MAN' as humans, and 'der' from deranged is the worse nonsense I've ever heard.
The absolute worst is charizard. 'Char', as I said, means 'being burnt'. It comes from 'char' and 'lizard', namely, the two words joined together. 'Ardvark' is the worst shit I've ever heard. Heck, what's its relation to charizard?
Unown, you. suck.
i could pretty much name all the origins of every pokemon
but that would be a major timewaste so i dont think i will
some names are dissected parts of things, some names are plays on things, some names are from different languages, and some names were made when nintendo were high
Squirtle as in squirt turtle
Chimchar as in chimpanzee char as in burnt
Treecko as in tree gecko
Mudkip as in mudskipper
btw, I am a primary school kid for being random.

Gamefreak tech2: *coughing up flem* I hate the winter...my nose is so stuffy...*coughs up more flem*
Gamefreak tech1: Gross! Dude, you totally just hocked a--
Boss: Well boys, have you named that last pokemon?
Gamefreak tech1: Loogie. Uhhh...
Boss: Lugia, eh? Brilliant!
Pokemon names also come from Japanese words. e.g. Ho-oh translated is Pheonix![]()
Unown5 I just have one question. You say that pokemon names come from words, now correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never heard of the word riz in the English language. Are you really that stupid or are you just a really good actor?
wow.....![]()
so let me get this straight
bulbasaur= glowing dinosaur
venasaur= dinosaur that has poison ivy

Your first examples are completely wrong, nineteails is right. I mean, a lightbulb![]()
Why would nintendo name a grass type after a lightbulb, which is closer to electricity.
at least the kanto names sound better than the ones now...
Not exactly. Ho-oh is the actual name of a legendary bird in Japan mythology that just resembles a phoenix. I could go more into this legend, but I'll save it for later.
Charmander is from the legend of 'fire salamanders' even though salamanders are amphibians. During the winter, they would hibernate in trees. When people used the wood for fire, the salamanders would run out of the fireplace, thinking it was spring. People thought back then that salamanders were born from fire, giving Charmander its fire type.
Random information is fun.![]()
yea they thought the first generation through and randemly came up with the others
The 4th generation names are the worst.
Burmy!??!!?The cries are lame too. Listen to Arceus'....
The Pokedex of Pokedream has the names and why theyre called that.
Lugia actually means guardian of the sea in japanese
