I think GS means that those who lives their lives trying to impress others fall short on making something relevant of themselves. This view holds merit but as far as I'm concerned the ultimate purposes in life are survival and replication. The second is damn near impossible without some level of maintaining societal relevance.

What, the topic? Depends on who it's all relevant to. Aging single who wants to have kids before their biological clock turns 'em sterile? Very much so. An endangered sPecies threatened by human overpopulation? Not enough to realize it, but it's there. An asteroid on the other side of the universe could care less who lives or dies here on Earth.
