That sucks. I don't even trade off Wi-Fi unless we make plans to trade.
Wifi can be pretty profitable. But one good thing is that you get many pokemon with different IDs, that makes the lottery draw at the TV station almost a certain win.

It's guaranteeded that you'll win once you've traded around for a while.
last digit match= new background
2 digits match= PP up
3 digits match= Exp share
At least, that's what I remember. If you've done about 15 trades, you'll have almost every number the last digit of at least one of the pokemon. So winning a new background has about a 90% chance.
2 digits isn't hard, you'll start striking around 30 trades or so.
3 digits and the rest is luck.

Oh, and the numbers for the lottery aren't infinitely random. How do I explain this.....well, let's jut say that I won 5 PP ups from this piplup named Jeffery. Yes, the number is drawn again and again. So my guess is that the game picks a umber of random sequences
13564, 42824, 83042, 10582, 84748, 39238, 32494
And then everyday the guy will draw one out of those sequences. The number drawn HAS to be one of those. so once you get a pokemon with the numbers ending 38, you'll get a PP up whenever 39238.
If not, I find it hard to see how the same pokemon could win me 5 times in a row, and others too. I'm waiting for the day when I get the pokemon with all the matching numbers. It's be about 1 mastrball in every 5 days. Heaven.
Note that this is all my deduction though, it isn't really proven on any website.

I've never actually caught a shiny or even encountered one in the wild, but on wifi someone traded me a shiny roselia nicknamed "blackrose." I evolved it and then traded it to someone else. it was pretty cool looking, but I didn't really need it other than to complete my pokedex because I was too lazy to catch one myself on my sapphire version. jesus christ that's a terrible run-on sentence
ive had a shiny weedle and a shiny castform that i saw/caught in the wild. is all.

I encountered my first legit shiny yesterday. It was a Kricketune. I tried to catch it, but accidentally knocked it out.
I once completed a Gold game with a Shiny cheat. All the Pokemon I saw in the wild were Shiny's. It was a very sparkly run-through.
