    Default Originality

Isn't it funny, how in our attempts not to be sheep, to be original, we find ourselves as un-original as possible, and yet, in becoming a sheep we sometimes find ourselves being perfectly original? Being original is so un-original, for it has already been done, yet being un-original is not original for you are still copying others. So, the question is, does originality exsist? What's your opinion?

Yes, yes I do, I'm just trying to bring life to this place. If you really want me to think too much, give me about three hours with nothing except myself and quiet-ness and I could come up with things that are literally "out of this world".

Can you please don't be vague just for the sake of sparking a debate? You're just stating everything without any evidence at all.

in becoming a sheep we sometimes find ourselves being perfectly original
Why don't you give an example to make things clearer instead.

Being original is so un-original, for it has already been done, yet being un-original is not original for you are still copying others.
You're attempting to be philosophical? Personal opinion, that this is not enough material to spark a serious debate.

Being the first to copy someone else is original because you were first, yet it is unoriginal because copying someone has already been done.

I don't care if it becomes a major debate or not, I'm just trying to bring some life to this "almost dead" forum.

if you want to bring life to something dead you must first prepare for life instead of death.

I always love a good debate...

I actually am pretty intrigued by this topic, I thought about it lately too from these accusations going round about copying on MSN.

I was thinking there may have been originality at some time, such as inventions like the phonograph [although that itself could be questionable, you could argue it is a spawn of a human ear] but pretty much everything in society now is based on something else and not truly original..

Cellphones, fridges with ice makers, even the PSP or DS, LCD televisions... Everything like that is based off a previous invention. You [or at least I] would not call those original. So it might be possible that long ago ideas may have been original but to this day pretty much everything around us is just a development.

I wouldn't say nothing was ever original, like for example a cliche. Like, "it was alllllll a dream" kind of story. Obviously someone must have come up with it first [was it in Dallas? Who shot JR? Or maybe that movie Jacobs Ladder] and people might've thought it was a brilliant idea. But now, since it's been reused so much, it's so unoriginal it's not funny.

So, I guess where I'm going is that an idea must;ve been original at sometime, but it is extremely hard or even impossible to find one at this time.
