Remember: Infernape is just as good as Blaziken at best. Blaziken's got plenty of things that offset the fact that it has less speed:
- Higher Attack stats,
- Baton Passing,
- Agility,
- Endrevving,
- And even Brave Bird, which can put a serious dent in most Fighting-types.
Now do you see why monkey boy is just as good as Blaziken at best?
I think Ash has deep feelings for Aipom. So, he won't trade it since the S.S. Anne trade incident.

hmmm, this is weird. because maybe he doesnt remember trading butterfree. i mean, sometimes in the anime they'll use their pokedex on a pokemon they've already seen and be like wow, what a cool new pokemon!!!

It's actually not a bad setup. Ash needs a water type and the only reason they still kept Aipom around for this season is to evolve it into an Ambipom later on.
