But movies like 2001 are simply amazing. There's the rare time I stumble on something sci-fi I enjoy.

I've never actually read any of the John Carter books! I've got MOST of the Tarzan books in old paperbacks around here somewhere though. They were decent. The first book may be among the more racist classics though.

The irony of Tarzan of the Apes is that his father came down to Africa to stop mistreatment of blacks at the hands of English colonists. His son winds up terrorizing a tribe made up of escaped slaves. Dammit, Burroughs! Jules Verne predicted rocket ships and submarines! You couldn't have predicted political correctness!?

I actually just finished Tarzan and the Castaways the other day. A good, shorter read than most and it didn't relegate the ape-man as a side character in his own book playing unwitting matchmaker between some explorer guy and a white girl from a lost civilization.

Jad Bal Ja!!! I looooove Jad Bal Ja!!! Golden Lion has one of the most convoluted plots of any Tarzan novel but Esteban Miranda's crazy ass made for one of the series' best villains.

Hrmm thats cool, have to take a look at it. and I NEED to get back to reading... I keep putting off stuff or not finding time. At least I got to read Pokemon Zombies. It's no Shaun of the Dead (The greatest zombie movie of all time, eclipsing even the original B&W NotLD) but it's pretty close to fantastic.
