    Default End Of The Universe

This site is really interesting, has a bunch of scientific end-of-the-world scenarios, some I've never heard of. The "Switch" scenario is particularly interesting.

discuss science and the end of the world and shit here i guess. just seemed like this would be the forum to post it in.

By end of the world, are you referring to Earth or something on a large scale, i.e the Milky Way, the solar system, etc.

    Global dimming. Wow.

I've always been a fan of Big Crunch theory since I heard the Bad Religion song about it.

I personally don't think the Universe will end. The Earth will, but we'll find a new planet.

I still believe Heat Death is the most likely scenario, where the universe reaches maximum entropy, the state where no more thermodynamic free energy exists in the universe to sustain motion or life.

    Optimism is the way forward.

Global Warming will end us anyway.

The thing where everything decays(cannot be bothered to look up/remember its real name) seems most likely. Things just stop moving as the motion energy from the Big Bang wears off, all matter is sucked into black holes or all elementary particles just expire, and the black holes eventually evaporate cos of hawking radiation. then its just nothing. then a bunch of quarks pop up until there is enough mass for the Big Bang to happen again.

For the Earth, the two proven theories are that when the Sun goes supernova, we'll either be enveloped or be so close to the sun all of our water evaporates, or that gravity will eventually stop our planet from turning and we'll die by extension from that. However, we'd probably go to Mars, Io, or Titan. Pluto and Venus are also possible. Venus if we could cool it down and Pluto if we could heat it up.

It will eventually, likely. That or it will collapse, but either way it will still do the above things.

The technological singularity followed by the suicide one is an interesting read. All the advancements we make as a civilization ultimately don't mean anything. It makes me think there is no reason to evolve past a microbe if this is all we put our effort into. This really sounds like what I've been saying all along.

They try too hard to make their articles sound "MIND BLOWING" though.

Another idiot that believes what the mainstream media says about Global Warming. It's overrated and not nearly as big a threat as we've been led to believe, it will not end us. Do some research instead of just believing everything the evening news tells you.

it makes you wonder, what was there before the universe?
Just the void we're floating in.

The void is the universe. But before the Big Bang it just didn't have any matter.

I believe she was referring to the physical universe as we know it today. Before that, yes, there was just the massive void.

If it was a she, then the username would be Lady94. But that's rather off-subject.

The zombie one is rather unfounded and generic, but I do like the Borg one.

You quoted Lord94, just a brain lapse. Ignore the comment.
