Stupid theory, or stupidest theory?
Stupid theory, or stupidest theory?
basically the idea that the free market left alone will end up doing good for the world

That's total (for lack of a better term) bullshit.
Did that guy never examine the economy of the american south pre-civil war?
Something like 2% of the population owned 95% of the land or somesuch, 70% were indentured servants, what about the other 20 something percent? They were poor white trash. They rented from the 2% of rich people, lived worse than the slaves which was pretty damn bad and no invisible hand took care of their wealth. When malaria struck they died by the buckets full, no invisible hand took care of that either. Really the civil war did quite a lot for southern poor whites, freed them as well.
Each individual maximizing revenue for himself maximizes revenue for himself. End of story.
God damnit people learn from history or you will repeat it.
We all move the Great Chain, and the Great Chain moves us all.

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." - Time Enough For Love, by Robert Heinlein
