I think being buried is symbolic. Returning to the earth from whence you came. Worm food, fertilizer, etc. Nourishing future generations. It's comforting to me to know that I'll return to the ground. I wish it wasn't illegal to bury without a casket. I'd request to just be lain in the ground in a shroud.
I also like the idea of the viking send off, going up in flames, however that isn't probable in today's society. There is cremation, but the other day on NCIS there was this probable scenario... This crematory was selling the bodies to science for test, completely dismembered. A dismembered corpse like that sells for $20k or so. They gave the family an urn of wood ashes.
If I were cremated I would prefer my ashes to be released into the river or just returned to the earth. But I was worried my loved ones wouldn't discard them.
Urns cost as much as caskets, and people do bury ashes. Unless you make a will I wouldn't count on any of your family fulfilling your last wishes.
I don't like the way funeral home directors manipulate your loved ones.
Is it morbid to think of this? NCIS made me do it!
