Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum Walkthrough:

  • Hearthome City
  • Route 209

Warm & Kind

Once you step into Hearthome City, a Pokemon will run towards you. It bumps into you and a girl named Keira walks over to thank you for stopping her Pokemon from running wild. She tells you to go to the Contest Hall, where she'll give you something. Go straight eastward until you see two people blocking the transit gate. Talk to the man near them to receive a Happiny Egg (not in Platinum). Go to the Pokemon Fan Club east of the PokeMart. The Chairman will give you a Poffin Case. Now go to the building next to the Fan Club, take the elevator up, and the lady there will give you a Shell Bell, which allows the Pokemon holding it to regain HP every time it inflicts damage. There's a Poffin House to the right of the PokeMart, where you can make Poffins from Berries.

The Gym Leader of this city's Gym, Fantina, stands outside of the Contest Hall (north of the PokeMart). Talk to her and she'll go away. Unfortunately, she didn't go back to her Gym, so you won't be able to get a badge from her for now. Now you can go into the Contest Hall. Surprisingly, your mom is in there with Keira. Keira will give you a Glitter Powder for your Fashion Case. You'll also get a Tuxedo from your mom. Talk to the man straight ahead for a Mild Poffin. In Platinum, Fantina is actually inside the Contest Hall. After your mom leaves, talk to Fantina, the purple-haired woman, and she'll actually go back to the gym. So now head to the gym for your third badge! Unfortunately, in Diamond or Pearl, the gym comes later in the game, so you can either try out the contests or leave the city.

Third Badge in Platinum

The Hearthome Gym in Pokemon Platinum consists of a couple of rooms with trainers. To get to the next room from the current room, simply go to the red door with the same pattern as the blue mat on the floor. The details of the battle with Fantina are on a separate page.

Cuteness

As you head south, Rival will show up to challenge you to a battle. In Platinum, you'll find Rival inside the southeast gate. He uses a lv. 19 Starly, a lv. 21 Prinplup (evolved version of the starter), a lv. 20 Ponyta, and a lv. 20 Roselia. In Platinum, he uses a lv. 25 Staravia, a lv. 27 Prinplup, a lv. 23 Ponyta, and a lv. 23 Roselia. Remember, this is specifically for trainers who chose Chimchar as a starter. After defeating him, go north to Amity Square, where you can take a stroll with one of your cute Pokemon (if you have one) and pick up items. If you're in need of a cute Pokemon, go back a little to Route 208 to catch a Psyduck. You and your cute Pokemon will then take a walk together and talk to other people with their cute Pokemon. You can find TM45 - Attract and TM43 - Secret Power in this area. If you go to the northwest corner, you'll see two ruins with a Spooky Plate next to one on the right. You can find a hidden Amulet Coin in the other one if you go in, walk around, and press "A" a few times. If you try talking to your Pokemon, it might give you something it picked up from the ground! After that, it's time to head east to Route 209.

Route 209

Go north past the patch of tall grass to pick up a Honey (a Great Ball in Platinum). Talk to the Fisherman looking east; he'll give you a Good Rod. Cross the bridge and go north for a Chesto Berry and a Leppa Berry. Go east from the Pikachu look-alike trainer to pick up a X Accuracy. After learning Surf, surf east from the Pikachu trainer to pick up TM19 - Giga Drain. Keep going east and then go north. Pick up the Razz Berries and the invisible Awakening in the pit. For the next item, you'll need some pretty good biking skills. Shift your Bicycle into the fast gear and try rushing up the slippery slope. Although it may be difficult, the reward is good: a Calcium. All the way north, cut the tree and pick up TM47 - Steel Wing. Go into the tower, known as the Lost Tower.

Lost Tower

Lost Tower is filled with Ghost and Dark Pokemon. If Platinum, you'll have to revisit Lost Tower after obtaining Defog later. Go up the levels while battling trainers and picking up the following items: Oval Stone, Revive, and TM27 - Return. On the top floor, you'll see two old ladies. The one on the left will give you HM04 - Strength (Spell Tag in Platinum) and the one on the right will give you Cleanse Tag. Note that you won't be able to use Strength until you obtain your third badge. Now you can leave the tower, keep going north, and arrive at the next city.
